Setting up verification codes to identify (authenticate) you when you log in to your account is one of the most important ways to keep your account information secure so no one else but you (or persons authorized by you) can access your information. At Questrade, we offer a number of ways to set this up:
2-step verification (2SV)
2SV is a strong, extra layer of security that you use when you log in to your account. After you enter your user ID and password, a time-sensitive, 6-digit verification code is generated and sent to your mobile phone (as SMS text) or by email. You then enter this code to log in to your account.
- To set up 2SV, log in to your Questrade account, go to Settings, click 2-step verification, and follow the online process. You may enable 2SV for every login attempt or for first-time attempts to log in with a new device or browser
Biometric ID for Questrade app (fingerprint, touch, or face ID)
If you have enabled biometric ID on your mobile phone, you can also enable this for the Questrade app by logging in, going to Settings, and clicking Log in with [biometric] ID.
PIN (personal identification number) - for contacting customer services
You can set up a PIN that you use to identify yourself—along with your account number—whenever you contact our customer services team by phone or chat. Using a PIN reduces the number of security questions we ask you, which saves you time and gets you to the support you need more quickly.
- To set up a PIN, log in to your Questrade account, go to Settings > Profile, click Edit, and, in the PIN field, enter 4 digits. To change your PIN, follow the same process.
- Only a primary account holder can set up a PIN.
