Funding your account

We offer 10 different ways to fund your account, each with different processing times. Depending on the currency of the deposit and how quickly you want the money in your account, choose the method that works the best for you. It may take an additional 1–2 business days to activate new accounts.

Online banking bill payment (Free)
allows you set up a direct deposit to your Questrade account. Funds deposited to your account will be available in 1-2 business days. Online banking can only be used for Canadian funds.

Interac Online (Free)
Interac Online allows you fund your Questrade account directly from your financial institution. To make a deposit, Log in to your Questrade, hover over FUNDING, and click or tap Interac Online

Pre-authorized deposit (Free)
You can easily set up a pre-authorized deposit. Give us a few details about where the money is coming from and when you want it deposited, and we’ll take care of the rest. To make a deposit, log in to your Questrade account, hover over FUNDING, and click or tap Pre-authorized deposit
  • Up to 2 business days when total daily deposit amount is under $10,000
  • Up to 7 business days when total daily deposit amount is $10,000 or more
CAD & USD
Transfer from another broker
We've made it easy to move to Questrade. After you've opened an account, you'll be prompted to fill out a one-page transfer form. Then we'll take care of the rest. For instructions on transferring your investments from Canadian, U.S., and international financial institutions, log in to your Questrade account, hover over FUNDING, and click or tap Transfer account to Questrade.

Wire transfer
Set up a wire transfer with your financial institution. They'll communicate directly with Questrade's bank, RBC Royal Bank. Questrade does not accept direct deposits to our bank account. For instructions on wiring funds from Canadian, U.S., and international institutions, log in to your Questrade account, hover over FUNDING, and click or tap Wire transfer.

Certified cheque or bank draft

Certified cheque: us with a personal certified cheque in Canadian or U.S. funds for a bank account with the same name as your Questrade account. Make the cheque payable to Questrade, Inc. and include your Questrade account number.

Bank draft: a draft issued by any Canadian bank, credit union, caisse, populaire, or trust company in Canadian or U.S. funds. The draft must include the name, phone number, and address of the issuer. Make the bank draft payable to Questrade, Inc. and include your Questrade account number.

Non-certified cheque
Canadian dollar non-certified cheques are held for 10 calendar days and U.S. dollar non-certified cheques are held for 15 calendar days. The funds will not be available for trading or withdrawal until our bank acknowledges receipt of payment.

CAD & USD
Money order
Questrade accepts money orders in CAD or USD funds as a way to fund all account types. Money orders are only accepted when issued by one of the following major Canadian banks: Bank of Montreal (BMO), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Scotiabank, TD Canada Trust (TD).

Stock certificate
Questrade accepts and process stock certificates of securities trading on senior stock exchanges. We no
longeraccepts over-the-counter bulletin board (OTC BB) and pink sheet stock physical certificates, even if they can be transferred via DWAC (an electronic booked-based deposit from the transfer agent).

Unacceptable deposits

  • Cash
  • Third party bill payments, cheques or wires (drawn on a bank account in a name dissimilar to the Questrade account title)
  • Payment processors, such as PayTM and Plastiq
  • Cheques with incomplete information
  • Credit card cheques
  • Credit cards
  • Cheques drawn on foreign banks, even if in U.S. currency.
  • Direct deposits by cheque or cash into Questrade's bank accounts
